Colonial Helps with Fees
Colonial donated a cheque of $1,800 on 18 March 2009 to Sigatoka Methodist Primary School.
The money will go towards school fees for the full education year for the needy students from the nearby communities of Laselase, Oloolo and Korokoro amongst the others.

Mr Howard Politini, the Head of Corporate & Community Relations, handed over the cheque. He reflected that these floods had been the worst in Fiji for many years. He said “as a responsible corporate citizen, Colonial are doing our bit to help in the long term recovery of the country.”

“It is humbling to see the enthusiastic faces of the young children from which you would not say there was such devastation here. Clearly they are looking for a brighter future.  Now that your fees have been taken care of your responsibility will be to work hard and excel in your studies.”

Reverend Lucas, the head of the Indian Division of the Methodist Church of Fiji, thanked Colonial for the cheque and said, “I urge parents of the children all over Fiji to get involved with their children’s education and encourage them along to build their future.”

He acknowledged the assistance of other corporate organisations and donors who were able to assist with the repairs to the classrooms and donate some flooring.

Parents of the affected students were invited to the ceremony and were moved by Colonial’s donation during their time of need. Many of them shook hands with representatives from Colonial to express their gratitude and were emotional.

Colonial have already assisted the various communities in Fiji to the value of $25,000 through donations to various donor agencies and directly to the flood affected victims.

“We continue to receive requests for assistance from various other educational institutes and organisations throughout the country. And more assistance will be handed out over the next couple of months,” said Mr Politini
